Thinking pink for breast cancer awareness

Pink lights illuminating the Sundial Bridge over the Sacramento River was the culmination of Think Pink Breast Cancer Awareness Day on Thursday in Redding.

The bridge-lighting ceremony, sponsored by MD Imaging, marked Nor-Cal Think Pink’s 16th year of spreading educational information about breast cancer. October is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Earlier Thursday, Nor-Cal Think Pink volunteers handed out thousands of Think Pink bags at about 50 locations across the north state.

The organization says the best defense against the disease is early detection — when caught and treated early, breast cancer has a 98 percent cure rate.
