Waterhouse-Friderichsen syndrome

Definition
Waterhouse-Friderichsen syndrome is adrenal gland failure due to bleeding into the adrenal gland. It is caused by severe meningococcal infection and is characterized by acute adrenal gland insufficiency and profound shock. It is fatal if not treated immediately.
