The Tasmanian Opposition says the State Government’s failure to provide appropriate funding to tackle Diabetes will have a big impact on sufferers and the health system.
Diabetes Australia has accused the Government of not doing enough to curb the disease, revealing Diabetes has not received any additional funding in the last three years.
More than 30,000 Tasmanians suffer from type I and type II diabetes, the highest percentage per capita in Australia.
The health spokeswoman for the Liberals, Sue Napier, says failing to invest in proper treatment and preventative programs now will plunge the health system further into crisis.
“Without better emphasis on preventative programs, as well as helping people that already have the disease, we’re likely to see an further explosion of people who are impacted,” she said.
