Only one in six adults suffering from a chronic illness has received the flu vaccine this year.
That’s according to a survey conducted by the state Health Department.
Many held off because of a nationwide shortage and state restrictions limiting who would be allowed to get the shots.
But now, Health Secretary Michelle Lujan Grisham said it’s time for those with heart problems, diabetes, asthma and other lung conditions to get vaccinated.
An October public health order that limited who could get shots has been amended to include adults older than 50.
A telephone survey conducted last month found that 87 percent of nursing home residents had received their flu shots. Of children between 6 months and 23 months, 52 percent had been vaccinated.
