U.S. News And World Report has ranked four Cincinnati’s hospitals among the best in the nation, with Children’s Hospital Medical Center rated eighth nationwide in pediatric care.
University Hospital, Christ Hospital and Good Samaritan Hospital also appear on the list.
Just 176 hospitals out of 6,007 U.S. medical centers scored high enough to rank in at least one specialty.
To determine the best hospitals for pediatrics, U.S. News asked board-certified pediatricians to name five hospitals they consider best in their specialty for difficult cases. Children’s and the 24 other hospitals ranked in pediatrics were cited by at least 3 percent of physicians who responded to U.S. News surveys in 2003, 2004 and 2005.
The Christ Hospital ranked 28th in heart treatments and heart surgery, 47th in digestive disorders, 35th in geriatrics, 33rd in gynecology, 39th in neurology and neurosurgery 33rd in respiratory disorders.
University ranked 14th in ear, nose and throat treatment, 43rd in geriatrics, 33rd in hormonal disorders, 43rd in neurology and neurosurgery, 27th in respiratory disorders, 43rd in urology and 42nd in digestive disorders, 42.
Good Samaritan Hospital ranked 38th in gynecology and 46th in respiratory disorders.
Also making the list was Fort Hamilton Hospital in Hamilton, which ranked 38th in treating respiratory disorders.
The magazine’s “America’s Best Hospitals” guide is scheduled for the July 18 edition of U.S. News, which hits newsstands Monday.
