FDA wants sale of unapproved cold drugs stopped

Adams Respiratory Therapeutics Inc. said U.S. health regulators asked companies to stop manufacturing and distributing unapproved timed-release dosage forms containing guaifenesin, used for treating cold and cough.

Only Adams Respiratory has the Food and Drug Administration’s approval to sell timed-release products containing guaifenesin, according to the regulator’s Web site.
