No more math required to figure out how many calories are in that big bottle of Coca-Cola. Revised labels will calculate it for you starting next year, the company said Friday.
The labels planned by Coca-Cola Co.’s North America division will show nutritional information for the entire container, as well as a traditional eight-ounce (237-millilitre) serving.
Currently bottles, no matter how large, only show information for the smaller size, along with the number of servings in the package.
The move meets a recommendation from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for food and drink companies to revise labels on packages that can be consumed in one sitting. The labels include information on calories, fat, sodium, carbohydrates, sugars and protein.
Coca-Cola’s new labels will be phased in as bottlers use up existing ones, the company said.
