15 Loyola Doctors Named to Chicago Magazine’s ‘Top Doctors for Women’ List

Fifteen Loyola physicians have been named to Chicago magazine’s January list of “Chicago’s Top Doctors for Women.”
Castle Connolly Medical Ltd., a health-care research and information company, compiled the list after surveying physicians and the medical leadership of top hospitals to identify “highly skilled, exceptional doctors.”
Linda Brubaker, MD, senior associate dean for clinical and translational research at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine appears on the cover. Dr. Brubaker is an internationally recognized leader in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive pelvic surgery. She also serves as a professor in the Departments of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Urology and as director of the Division of Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery at Loyola University Health System.
“Linda’s skills and contributions to the health-care profession make her well-deserving of this prominent feature,” said Paul Whelton, MB, MD, MSc, president and CEO of Loyola University Health System. “She is an accomplished surgeon, clinician, researcher and educator who has transformed the way we care for women with pelvic-floor disorders.”
Other full-time Loyola physicians on the Top Doctors for Women list include:
• Coronary artery disease; echocardiography; heart failure; nuclear cardiology; heart valve disease: John Barron, MD
• Transplant medicine (heart); heart failure: Alain Heroux, MD
• Heart disease: Thomas McKiernan, MD
• Coronary artery disease; congestive heart failure; cholesterol/lipid disorders: John Moran, MD
• Cholesterol lipid disorders; heart disease in the elderly; preventive cardiology: Ivan Pacold, MD
• Heart valve disease; coronary artery disease: Ronald Schreiber, MD
• Women’s health; addiction/substance abuse: Eva Bading, MD
• Geriatric medicine; women’s health: Linda Fisher, MD
• Ovarian, cervical, vulvar and vaginal cancer; robotic surgery: Ronald Potkul, MD
• Cervical cancer; ovarian cancer: Donna Smith, MD
• Prenatal diagnosis; premature labor; critical care: Richard Besinger, MD
One doctor with a part-time Loyola affiliation is on the list: Meike Uhler, MD (infertility; endometriosis; menopause problems).
Also on the list, for gynecologic endocrinology and infertility is Jaafar Afshar, MD, and for cardiovascular disease is Lloyd Klein, MD, of Gottlieb Memorial Hospital, which is part of the Loyola system.
