Breast Cancer test offer

Free Nhs breast cancer screening is under way in Ammanford, thanks to Breast Test Wales. More than 2,400 women will be invited to attend the potentially life-saving test over the next few weeks.

All women aged 50 to 64 should automatically receive a postal invitation over the next few weeks if they are registered with GPs in Ammanford.

The testing unit is at Tesco car park, in Park Street, Ammanford, where it will remain until March.

Screening promotion officer Alison Clement said: “One in nine women in the UK has a lifetime risk of developing breast cancer, and the risk increases with age. It is very important that local women attend for their free appointment because the screening process can detect tiny changes in the breast at an early stage, before any symptoms can be seen or felt.”

More than 6,500 breast cancers have been detected in Wales since the NHS Breast Screening Programme began in 1989.
