Just a month old, the Quincy Juvenile Diabetes group held a special fundraising event Saturday afternoon.
The group hosted a run/ walk or bike event which started in the parking lot of HyVee on Harrison.
Bikers took a tour through some of the Quincy’s historic neighborhoods.
Runners and walkers enjoyed the beauty of South Park.
Event organizers says that Juvenile Diabetes is not well known and their goal is not only to raise awareness but to show that kids with the condition are just like other kids.
One of the people responsible for the group is Summer Thomas.
Her son was diagnosed with the condition 4 years ago.
She says, “ The kids that are diagnosed, certainly it’s a smack in the face. But they’re gonna survive. They live normal lives, they play soccer, they dance, they ride 4 wheelers. They are normal kids. They’re able to live normal lives. It’s just a little more difficult.”
