Obesity is not Just Related to Weight Loss

According to an article published in Reuters, a new and surprising fact come in to existence that Obesity is not just associated with weight loss but it is a serious, and complex problem which should be identify and treated with deadly complication.

It is know fact that more and more people in USA are now getting obese. In exact these numbers are more then 300 million. It means that more then 50% people in USA which itself signifies that obesity is really a serious matter of concern.

Billions of dollars are spending every year by Americans to lose weight. Talking about Western Countries upto 8% of total healthcare problem is attributed to obesity and its related problems. It is mentioned that Obesity is the leading cause of preventable death. Now it is not related to weight loss only.

According to Professor Constantine Tsigos, chairman of the 14th European Congress on Obesity, ”Obesity is not an aesthetic problem. It is a very complex problem tightly connected to diabetes, Atherosclerosis (blocked arteries) and other major health problems and causes of death” So it needs to be treated in serious manner.

Obesity can give birth to various problem including respiratory problems, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and many more diseases. That is the reason why 2000 experts from 80 countries have decided to attend a meeting on obesity where they will discuss the consequences and other related matters related to Obesity.

Additionally it is mentioned that the “main purpose is to create the awareness in people that Obesity is not just related to weight loss but it is a serious diseases with many risks associated with it.”

There is thousand of online resources available who claim to fast weight reduction with various things like good weight loss programs, diet pills, gadgets etc but still the rate at which people in EU Countries, Japan and specially in USA is getting overweight is very surprising.

According to Tsigos “Preventive efforts must be geared to the young because excess weight in children is linked to early markers for metabolic syndrome—a collection of health risks that increase the odds of developing heart disease, stroke and diabetes.”

Doctors need to understand one thing that Obesity is not an aesthetic problem anymore but is a dangerous disease.

In past it has been seen that Obesity is mainly related to weight loss but not its treatment should aim to achieving benefits such as reduced blood pressure, better insulin sensitivity and improved well being in addition to weight loss.
