Acne is the most common skin problem that presents to the dermatologist in:

  • Adolescents and
  • Young men and
  • Young women, from their twenties till menopause, while
  • Infantile acne presents around the age of three months. It may last up to 5 years of age.

Acne tends to develop earlier in girls than guys. Some children show signs of pimples and acne as early as eight to nine years.

Acne can be at its worse between the ages of 14 and 17 in girls. More than 40 percent two out of every five - girls between 14 and 17 have acne.

Guys usually hit the worse patch between 16 19, when 35 percent one out of three boys are affected by this dreaded condition.

While most cases resolve, acne occurs in one percent of men age 40, and in five percent of women of this age. It is not always realised that the condition is common in women in their thirties and forties.

In most cases the condition will last for many years.
