British teenagers will be able to get text messages about contraception and safe sex as part of a campaign to reduce the high number of unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections, a charity announced.
The Brook pregnancy advisory service said: “Our new texting service will mean more young people have the facts literally at their fingertips, giving them an alternative to our existing confidential online and helpline enquiry services.
"Technology has come a long way in the 40 years since Brook was established and we aim to make the most of those changes.”
Reports of sexually transmitted infections in Britain have soared from 449,666 to 708,083 since 1995. The country also has one of the world’s highest rates of unwanted pregnancy and abortion.
